Regional Champions
Coach Young will be entering his 18th year coaching and sixth season as the girl’s head basketball coach at Horizon High School. In his first five seasons he has led the Huskies to a 84-53 record and received the honors of 2019/20 District Coach of the year, and 2018/19 Region and District Coach of the Year. Prior to Horizon, Coach Young led the Saguaro Sabercats to a 123-65 record and the school’s first ever girl’s basketball state championship. He received the honors of 2012/13 AZ Republic Big Schools Coach of the Year, ABCA Division II Coach of the Year, 2011/12 Division II Section III Coach of the Year and All Northeast Valley Coach of the Year. Coach Young graduated from Kent St. University in Kent, OH and received his Master’s in Education from the University of Phoenix.
Coach K has coached at various levels of basketball for the past 18 years. Most notably she served as the Men’s assistant basketball coach at Colorado Northwestern Community College. Prior to that she spent eight years as head girls basketball coach at Paradise Valley High School where she and her coaching staff built the program up from one of the last place teams in the conference, to a state tournament berth. Coach K played college basketball at Pima Community College before transferring to NAU for a season where she also finished her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. She earned a masters degree in Kinesiology from ASU as well as a master’s in education from NAU. Currently Coach K is a cofounder of ONE10 basketball camps and teaches chemistry at Paradise Valley High School.
Coach Amber graduated from Scottsdale Saguaro High School playing 4 years under Coach Young and being part of the 2012/13 State Championship team as a Freshman. After high school, Amber continued her playing career at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ, where she took part in the inaugural women's basketball team. In her 4 years she helped the team to an 82-28 record and her final two seasons helped lead the team to the CalPac Championship. She was a two time Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete and named Champion of Character her Senior year. Amber graduated with a degree in Aviation Business Administration and Supply Chain Management.
Coach Paige played on the Varsity at Horizon High School and graduated in 2012. After high school, Paige continued to play basketball for fun, while also focusing on playing hockey. She has coached girls hockey and is excited to be changing her coaching duties to basketball at Horizon. Paige graduated with a degree in Finance and Economics as well as earning an MBA degree.
